AI Day: $500 Billion, Future Drugs, and the Global Race for Innovation
January 23, 2025 | by Matos AI

The world of artificial intelligence has been buzzing with shocking news over the past 24 hours. In a move that promises to redefine the global technology landscape, Donald Trump has announced an ambitious $1.5 billion plan for the AI sector in the United States, surrounded by tech giants. But not everything is rosy in this billion-dollar garden.
As a leader who has been following the innovation ecosystem for over 25 years, I can say that we are living in a unique moment in the history of technology. Let’s analyze the main events of this intense day for AI.
The Billionaire War in AI
The Stargate project, announced by Trump, promises to inject half a trillion dollars into AI infrastructure, with the participation of companies such as OpenAI and Oracle. The proposal includes 20 data centers and the creation of 100,000 jobs. However, tensions have already started to appear, with Elon Musk publicly questioning the financial viability of the project.
On the other side of the world, ByteDance, owner of TikTok, announces a US$12 billion investment in AI chips, dividing its purchases between Chinese suppliers and Nvidia.
AI Healthcare Revolution
One of the most promising pieces of news comes from Isomorphic Labs, a subsidiary of Alphabet. The first drug developed entirely by AI will begin clinical trials later this year. As an entrepreneur who has supported several healthtechs, I see this as a revolutionary milestone in the pharmaceutical industry.
The Challenges of Adoption
Amid all this development, important concerns arise. A Google/Ipsos survey reveals that 781% of Brazilians already use AI at work, significantly exceeding the global average of 481%. This brings to light the phenomenon of “Shadow AI” – the unregulated use of AI tools in organizations.
Pope Francis also spoke during the World Economic Forum in Davos, warning of the need for vigilance to protect human dignity in the face of the advancement of AI.
Reflections and Perspectives
In my experience supporting over 10,000 startups and working with corporate innovation, I can say that we are at a critical juncture. The race for AI is intensifying globally, but we need to balance technological development with responsibility and ethics.
Companies, especially startups, need to prepare for this new reality. It is essential to develop strategies that consider not only the adoption of AI, but also its governance and social impact.
