In the last 24 hours, the world of Artificial Intelligence has seen important developments that show how this technology is increasingly present in different sectors. Let's analyze the main events that are shaping the future of AI.

UK proposes new rules for use of copyrighted material in AI

One of the most relevant news comes from the United Kingdom, where the government proposed significant changes to copyright laws. The proposal would allow tech companies like Google and OpenAI to use copyrighted materials to train AI models, unless the creators explicitly opt out.

Data Protection Minister Chris Bryant highlights that the proposal seeks to strike a balance between innovation and protecting creators. One interesting point is that AI companies may have to disclose the sources of content used to train their systems, bringing more transparency to the process.

US Department of Homeland Security launches its own ChatGPT

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) introduced ChatDHS, an AI-powered chatbot for internal use. Already available to over 19,000 employees, the tool is designed to assist with tasks such as reporting, information summarization, and software development.

An important feature of ChatDHS is its security architecture: although it uses external language models via API, it does not share data back, protecting sensitive information.

Investments in AI reach historic milestone

Second HSBC Innovation Banking report, AI companies received $421T3T of all venture capital investment in the US in 2024 – a significant jump from $361T3T in 2023 and $221T3T in 2022. Most impressively, 20 AI companies individually raised more than $1T4T2 billion each.

In the same vein, the semiconductor market for AI also shows positive signs. The Micron Technology, for example, is expected to deliver impressive results, driven by demand for high-bandwidth memory (HBM) chips for AI applications.

Recognition in innovation

It is also worth noting that the Iterate.ai wins AI and Machine Learning Model of the Year 2024 award from InfoWorld with its Interplay-AppCoder LLM, a code generation model that outperformed major competitors in the ICE benchmark.

These events of the last 24 hours show how AI is consolidating itself on different fronts: regulatory, governmental, financial and technological. It is a time of accelerated transformation, where we see both the public and private sectors adapting and innovating to take advantage of the potential of this technology.
