OpenAI Launches GPT-5 with Unchanged Prices as Brazilian AI Beats Medicine in Entrance Exams - Why This Moment Redefines the Future of Business
August 9, 2025 | by Matos AI

Yesterday was one of those epoch-making days in the history of artificial intelligence. While OpenAI launched GPT-5, The most advanced AI model ever created, here in Brazil we were witnessing something equally revolutionary: artificial intelligence courses surpassing medicine in entrance exam competition.
This convergence is no coincidence. It is the reflection of a profound transformation that is redefining not only technology, but our entire relationship with work, education and innovation.
GPT-5 Democratizes Access to Superintelligence
Let's start with what really matters: GPT-5 is not just an incremental update. According to Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, “GPT-5 gives you the feeling of talking to an expert with a doctorate in any subject”, surpassing the levels compared to students in previous versions.

- AI Builders: with a more technical and hands-on approach.
What impresses me is not just the technical improvements - a 45% reduction in the “hallucination” rate compared to the GPT-4 and 80% compared to the GPT-3 - but the democratization strategy. Prices have been maintainedPlus US$ 20/month, Pro US$ 200/month, and most importantly - access for free users.
In my experience accelerating startups, I've always observed that the most disruptive technologies are those that break down barriers to access. GPT-5 does just that.
Vibe-Coding and the New Era of Development
One of the most fascinating innovations of the GPT-5 is the “vibe-coding” - the ability to create software on demand. Imagine describing an idea and seeing a functional application emerge in minutes.
For startups like me, this represents a fundamental change in the cost and speed of validating ideas. The barrier between concept and prototype is disappearing. According to Forbes Brazil, This functionality makes it possible to “generate applications quickly”, accelerating innovation cycles.
But here's the crucial point: it's not just about replacing programmers. It's about empowering anyone with an idea to turn it into digital reality.
When Brazilian AI Outperforms Medicine in Entrance Exams
While this was happening in Silicon Valley, something historic was happening here in Brazil. UFG had its artificial intelligence course more popular than medicine in 2025, with a cut-off score above 811 points.
This is not just a statistical curiosity. It's a powerful indicator of where our young people see the future. The MEC already recognizes 28 AI courses in the country, and universities like PUC-Rio are debuting programs with their own focus on AI, including ethical and social approaches.
As someone who has always defended the importance of technological education - and who has helped train thousands of tech talents - I see this as a sign of the maturity of our ecosystem. We are finally prioritizing the professions of the future.
The Global Race for Government Contracts
Parallel to these developments, AI companies step up efforts to secure contracts with Trump administration, with public investments of up to US$ 500 billion in AI.
Amazon, Palantir, OpenAI, Anthropic, Google and xAI are all vying for this trillion-dollar market. OpenAI and Anthropic offer enterprise versions for symbolic amounts, while giants like AWS and Oracle offer massive discounts for migration to the cloud.
This race reflects a reality: AI has become a matter of national security and global competitiveness. Countries that do not position themselves properly will be left behind.
Google Responds with Virtual Worlds and Educational Access
Google's response didn't take long. The launch of Genie 3 shows a different approach: instead of focusing only on text and code, they are betting on creating interactive 3D worlds from text prompts.
At the same time, Google has resumed its 12-month free AI Pro plan for students, including access to the advanced tools Gemini 2.5 Pro, Veo 3, Deep Research and 2 TB of storage.
This strategy is brilliant: train the next generation already familiar with your tools, creating a long-term competitive moat.
The Challenges and Contradictions of the Present Moment
It's not all flowers. AI is impacting the advertising market, This has reduced the demand for certain professionals and changed the remuneration for creative work.
The debate is complex: with AI delivering results faster and with excellence, should the price go up or down? How can we avoid trivializing the market in favour of immediate profitability?
On the other hand, initiatives such as Jusbrasil using AI to democratize legal language show the positive potential of the technology. As Luiz Paulo Pinho, co-founder, pointed out, AI makes it possible to “understand decisions and precedents clearly, overcoming legal barriers”.
Elon Musk and Tesla Reformulate Strategy
About that, Elon Musk has announced that Tesla will simplify the development of AI chips, The project is focused exclusively on inference chips for practical applications in autonomous vehicles and robotics.
Even more provocative, Musk declared that AI has the potential to replace all human professions, including his own. This perspective raises fundamental questions about the future of work and the need for appropriate public policies.
Brazil Between Innovation and Protection
Brazil shows its typical complexity. While we celebrate AI courses beating medicine in competition, the Senate Human Rights Commission evaluates protection for voice actors against AI.
The proposal aims to make it compulsory for human voice actors to work for national companies, preserving jobs and cultural identity. There are 20,000 supporters and debates about balancing innovation with protecting labor rights.
This tension is natural and necessary. Innovation without social responsibility is destructive; excessive protection without adaptation is stagnation.
What This Means for Your Business
After more than 25 years working in technology and having supported more than 10,000 startups, I see this moment as a historic turning point. We're not just witnessing incremental improvements - we're living through a paradigm shift.
For entrepreneurs and business leaders, a few thoughts are essential:
- Democratization of creationGPT-5“s vibe-coding drastically reduces the cost of validating ideas. This speeds up innovation cycles, but also intensifies competition.
- Education as a competitive advantageCountries and companies that invest in training AI talent will come out ahead. Brazil is showing positive signs, but needs to accelerate.
- Balance between automation and humanizationThe question is not whether AI will impact your area, but how you will use it to your advantage while maintaining human value.
- Smart regulationWe need regulatory frameworks that protect without locking us in, that promote responsible innovation.
The Time to Act is Now
We are living in one of those rare moments in history where we can clearly see a technology transforming everything around us. The GPT-5 isn't just another product launch - it's the democratization of capabilities that were previously exclusive to specialists.
For startups, this means faster and cheaper validation of ideas. For large companies, it represents opportunities for efficiency and new business models. For professionals, it requires adaptation and continuous learning.
Brazil has all the conditions to be a protagonist in this transformation. Our innovation ecosystem has matured, we have quality talent and a robust domestic market. But we need to act with urgency and strategic intelligence.
As I always say: the future isn't something that happens to us - it's something we create. And at this moment in history, we have more powerful tools than ever to create the future we want.
In my mentoring work, I help startups and companies navigate these transformations, identifying the unique opportunities that generative AI is creating. Because at the end of the day, technology is just a tool - what really matters is how we use it to solve real problems and create value for people.
